The mission of the Swedish National Council for Nuclear Waste is to advise the Swedish Government in matters concerning nuclear waste and the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
In February each year, the Swedish National Council for Nuclear Waste publishes a State-of-the-Art Report with the Council's independent assessment of the current state of the art in the nuclear waste field.
This year's report conists of two parts.

The first part concerns the viewpoints that have been submitted to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the Land and Environmental Court on the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co's (SKB) application for a license to build and operate a final repository for spent nuclear fuel.

The second part of the report discusses the importance of technology development for the management of spent nuclear fuel, in particular the possibilty of recycling the spent fuel.
